Why This Must Be Read: When Daniel leaps to Teal'c's defense in a fraught situation - without noticing that he might need a little defense of his own - Teal'c is left wondering how to deal with this particular Tau'ri. Jack's vague advice might not help very much, either.

I love very early S1 fic, particularly from Teal'c's POV. This is an excellent look at the very beginnings of team: their support of one another, acceptance of differences, and bonding together against outside menaces. An intelligent read, as Random's stories always are!


He was unsure what to make of the fact that a Tau'ri, a scholar, a man with more honor than sense it seemed, would act as his defender. It was...unsettling. It was also--extraordinary. And it seemed it was...Daniel.

Why This Must Be Read: I love Teal'c and Daniel's friendship, and I love it even more when authors treat us to a glimpse of the journey these two take to get there. In this gem, Stringertheory gives us fantastic characterization and lots of excellent little touches to show the very beginning of that friendship. Great voices for both of them, and an excellent read!

Why This Must Be Read: I love early-season Teal'c perspective, and this marvelous fic has that in spades: observing the "rites of mourning" in the wake of Kawalsky's death, his adaptation of Daniel's explanations to seek his own insight into the Tau'ri, his bemusement at Sam's eagerness to learn. This is Teal'c, at the very beginning -- superbly, wonderfully himself.


There are so many things to ask, every question leading to a dozen more, and he has been allowing himself to indulge his curiosity as he has not done since he was a child. It is all too easy among these people, who are constantly asking why and why must it be and why should we not as if they were not dangerous questions.

Why This Must Be Read: This hilarious sendup of Ascension began as commentfic from Thothmes and was expanded into a full-blown, delicious-beyond-words story by Beth. Take typical cat traits and add Ascended Daniel to the mix, and you get... well, this! Laugh-out-loud antics that are still perfectly in character, from visits to Jack in Washington to harassing Mitchell in his dress uniform. Add Sam as head of the SGC and Vala and Teal'c and Cassie for good measure, tie up a loose end from Ark of Truth, and you end up with a marvelously entertaining story that I just couldn't wait to rec.
