Why This Must Be Read: Early S1 oldskool-style fic, as the various members of SG-1 take turns visiting an under-the-weather Jack in the infirmary. It's charming to see how Jack and the others bond over different subjects and activities, from video games to astronomy to (naturally) Jack-and-Daniel sniping. Slightly fluffy, all heart!

Why This Must Be Read: I love post-1969 fic. This one is wry and relaxed, even with the slight dose of inevitable angst, and a really sweet read... and not just because of the pie!

Why This Must Be Read: Sam is delightful in this short story, as she helps their new resident alien find a method of recreation and handles the subsequent conversation with her CO with aplomb. I love her sense of humor, Jonas' enthusiasm for new things, and Jack's wry acknowledgment of who's really responsible for the whole thing.

Why This Must Be Read: Here is a fantastic look at Sam and Jack in the overtly polite social battlefield of a USAF function, with Jack solidly offering a teammate his support. Sam's thoughts are spot-on and the characterization is perfect. This is Sam and Jack's friendship at its best, with sharp humor and understanding that makes reading this a real pleasure!


"I don’t think we've been introduced," says the Colonel, so bold that Sam finds herself struggling to hide a smile. "Colonel Jack O'Neill, sir. I'm Major Carter's commanding officer on our current project. Unfortunately for Jacob's unborn grandkids, she's far too valuable to our work right now."

Why This Must Be Read: I love best the episodes when SG-1 has to grapple with difficult, shades-of-grey situations. In this heartbreaking story, Sam has to deal with a problem with an impossible solution which she nonetheless needs to make.

I love Sam's courage here, Jack's unremitting strength, Daniel's gentle support, the general competence of just about everyone, and the inevitable choice. Painfully, powerfully good.

Toss in some teamy goodness and a lot of shooting (in both meanings of the word), and this story becomes a wonderful Sam fic that will leave you cheering!

Why This Must Be Read: Here is some nice angsty introspective from Jack in S8, mourning the automatic loss of closeness that his promotion and loss of his team entails. He considers the new distance that exists with Teal'c, with Daniel, with Sam... and, with perfect Jack headspace, decides that the sacrifice is worth it.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a lovely episode tag for The Enemy Within, as Sam takes the first tentative step towards developing a friendship with her commanding officer. Add a nod to O'Malley's, a drunken Daniel, and a genuine tribute to Kawalsky, and you've got a nice introspective piece that feels solidly right.


“You want to go get drunk?”

That got a reaction. His head whipped up, and he stared at her incredulously. “Excuse me, Captain?”

She hesitated only for a second before slightly revising her question. In for a penny... she mentally shrugged. “You want to get drunk, Sir?”

Why This Must Be Read: Sam may be at a low point post-Death Knell, physically and emotionally exhausted from the struggle with the Kell warrior and Jacob's subsequent disappearance with the Tok'ra, but at least she's got Janet's warm (and somewhat wicked) friendship to help keep her going. Add a nice scene with Jack in the infirmary, some reflection on Jacob, and a callout to Cassie, and you've got a satisfying story that you're sure to enjoy!

Reccer's note: there is a single half-sentence in the story that can probably be read as Sam/Jack UST. I personally had no trouble keeping my gen glasses firmly in place. :)
