Add Jack's typical rapport with kids and Daniel's meandering thought processes for a short and well-written fic.

I opened a file dated 2007 on my PC and found this rec, completely written out and ready to go. I needed to hunt for an alternate link, but hey, it took only 15 years to post... :)

Why This Must Be Read: This short, feel-good fic is an exercise in wishful thinking: wouldn't it have been nice if TPTB had taken advantage of Jack's fish-filled pond at the end of S8 to change a few more things?

Short, sweet, and to the point, this fic takes SG-1 home from their trip to Jack's cabin to discover that their journey to the past has had a few more repercussions than they originally thought. Put this one in the "if only!" file, and take it out to reread whenever you're particularly missing one spit-fire, Napoleonic Little Doc and one snarky, wry and intelligent Tok'ra.

Why This Must Be Read: In the wake of Enemy Within, Jack has to deal with... appearances with Sam. Daniel quotes Plutarch, Sam isn't Caesar's wife, Jack throws around slang with enthusiasm, and Teal'c is perfectly willing to throw around everybody. :)

Why This Must Be Read: If the Ancient gene was such a valuable commodity in Atlantis that they wrote a completely ignorant and inexperienced John into the mission based on the strength of his, why would they ignore a young, vastly experienced guy who already knew about everything and had the gene as well?

In this two-part series, they didn't... and clone!Jack ends up as part of the Atlantis expedition.

These two stories don't actually get us to Atlantis, but it's an intriguing, well-written premise. And who knows? Maybe some feedback will prompt the author to write more! :)

Why This Must Be Read: Here is oldskool!Little Doc at her finest, offering comfort when Daniel needs it most. Very short (like Janet herself, heh), but also very poignant and very right.


It's normal to forget some things -- how many times you've been on an airplane, how many fish you're supposed to have in the fishtank, how old General Hammond's granddaughter will turn next weekend.

But Daniel's lying in the infirmary, heart monitor beeping reassuringly, feet still tingling from the long minutes of stalled blood flow earlier that day, and he can't remember how many times he has died.

Why This Must Be Read: This is what the SGC/Tok'ra relationship should have been, and a very plausible way to bring Cam into the SGC program a full season earlier: instead of putting him through a year of agonizing therapy that might not be successful, Sam - still host to Jolinar - offers Cam the opportunity to be a Tok'ra host.

This leads to a very different S8, with Cam and his fellow Tok'ra-Tau'ri blends working at the SGC.

You'll enjoy the different twists on various episodes, the hilarious inner dialogue, and the warm friendship between Cam and Sam. A very satisfying story!


As everyone began settling down, Cam took a look around at them all. They were, to a man, woman, and snake, a bunch of neurotic, insane, and sneaky basket cases, but they were also brilliant, brave, and loyal. Part of Cam still ached for the squadron he had been forced to leave behind, but if he had to replace them he couldn't have asked for a better group. He didn't think he would mind calling them family for the next three or four hundred years.
