Why This Must Be Read: Lovely Sam POV that is quite literally the sweetness of team bonding via baked goods, with Daniel playing host. You've heard of the language of flowers? Daniel speaks cookies, cake, and pie, too!

Teamy goodness, a light dose of angst, and a slight warning for probable cravings by the time you reach the satisfactory ending. :)


Jack liked cake, so after each time he and Daniel went at it, after whatever tiff they had ran its course, Daniel would show up with four slices of red velvet or tres leches or plain old chocolate cake, and Jack would give him a twitchy smile, and Daniel would reciprocate with a twitchy smile of his own, and Sam would relax for the first time that week, catching Teal’c’s eye. They ended up eating a lot of cake..

Why This Must Be Read: Stringertheory writes the loveliest gen fic, and I've recommended many of her stories in the past. Now that she's moving her fics to AO3, I have an excellent excuse to rec yet another one!

This is a wonderful five things of Sam and Daniel friendship, at the canon points when thing were sharp-edged and difficult. It's wonderful to see their mutual honesty and faith in one another. An intelligent, thoughtful read.

Why This Must Be Read: I'm not sure I even know a female version of John Watson existed (hey, medical doctor, name of show... it's a pretty safe assumption), but no knowledge of Elementary is required to enjoy this epistolary exchange between Janet, Joan, Cassie and George. There are multiple time jumps to cover nearly a decade of canon, but it's a delightful exploration of the friendships that surely exist outside the SGC.

I assume that if you are familiar with Joan Watson, you'll enjoy this ever more than I did... but either way, it's definitely a keeper!


I would be delighted to be Cassie’s weird but absurdly trustworthy Aunt Joan, keeper of secrets, buyer of lunches, sender of mildly inappropriate Christmas gifts, purveyor of worldly wisdom, et cetera. I hereby swear that I am neither a Bond villain nor a Bond girl, and that the worst thing your bosses are likely to find in my personal history is the business with the cadaver, the trombone, and the three watermelons, which I assume is already in their files from your background check.

Short but not sweet, fully canonical, and very Daniel indeed.


Every time he gets close to another human being, he can't help but feel the echoes of an eight year old's pain and denial, listening in incomprehension as some stranger or other tried to tell him that his parents had "gone away" without him.

They were only the first in a long line of people to leave him, but he's never quite managed to forgive them for it.

Why This Must Be Read: This isn't a crossover or AU so much as a fusion, with the world of SG-1 melding with the world of another fandom. The fic essentially sketches the first eight years of the show, with mostly the same storylines, with one major difference: there are people who can "bend" various elements to their will, and Jack O'Neill is one of them.

I don't even know if Avatar: the Last Airbender is a live TV show, a cartoon, a novel, or a comic book. I imagine that for those who are familiar with the fandom, there are many more nuances to appreciate. But even for someone like me, who has no concept of Avatar, this was a fascinating exploration with an excellent Jack voice that I read and enjoyed in a single sitting.

Why This Must Be Read: The summary of this is "five times Daniel sat alone in a dark room," but in reality, it's "five times Daniel tried to sit alone in a dark room, until someone rescued him." And it's truly lovely, as five different depressing, dark moments that Daniel canonically suffered are mitigated and consoled by various friends. I love how the choice of each person so fits the situation. A very warming read.

Why This Must Be Read: This shiny new fic is exactly what it says: five times Walter, from Season 8 and onwards, wishes George Hammond was still running the SGC - a bit of wry humor, a generous dose of angst, and Walter as the observer of events. Definitely well worth reading!


Sometime in the middle of SG-1's third mission as a trio, he poked his head into O'Neill's office. "Colonel Carter just called in their check-in, right on time. She said all's clear."

O'Neill blinked at him a moment before biting out a gruff "Thanks," but as Walter eased the door shut he didn't miss the soft sigh of relief. Back at his station, he added a note to the desk log: New task: email O'Neill when SG-1 checks in

Why This Must Be Read: It's two weeks since the fandom lost Sid. I went digging through my old rec links and found four gen Five Things that she wrote and never archived. There's humor, friendship, angst, snappy banter, superb characterization... All the hallmarks of Sid fics. Bittersweet in the circumstances, and well worth reading them all.
