Why This Must Be Read: This fantastic exploration of the Bill Lee's first encounter with SG-1 - and, particularly, Daniel - is not only a gripping story, but also a wonderful outsider POV of team friendship. I love the way Bill tries to understand the dynamics of Sam and Jack and Daniel's interactions with one another, and how so much goes over his head even as the reader comprehends SG-1's unique closeness. Add typical Jb drama and tension, and you've got a long, engrossing story of SG-1 at its best.

Why This Must Be Read: When a weary, heartsick Sam post-2010 meets Doctor John Smith at an astrophysics conference, their conversation on time travel and consequences is both absorbing and oddly comforting.

Like me, you needn't be a Doctor Who fan to thoroughly enjoy the discussion between these two; while I imagine that all of the Doctor's "hypotheticals" are actual canon references, it doesn't matter from a Stargate perspective. But if you do watch Doctor Who, you definitely won't want to miss this intelligent and intriguing character study.

Why This Must Be Read: This is the Little Doc in all her capable glory, keeping an eye on SG-1 after their return from P3R-118 and making sure they've found themselves in the wake of their memory stamps. I love how well she knows them! Add a scene for each team member as they find that click that helps them recognize that they're truly home again, and this is a lovely, feel-good story that's pure old skool SG-1.


Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle had its own peculiar application to SG-1 teams. Observation made them twitchy. Janet had gotten a bit of a read on position in the infirmary. Hopefully watching them in more relaxed surroundings would give her a read on momentum. They should be trooping in soon.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a rare glimpse of Jack's state of mind during those long three months on Edora. I like the combination of realism and acceptance, coupled with that still-stubborn refusal to give up entirely. This feels very real for Jack, who knows all about loss and the need to keep going.


He turned his attention to the sky one last time, hoping for a miracle he knew wasn’t going to happen, then shook his head. He was stuck here for good. He might as well get used to it.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a fantastic episode tag to Forever in a Day that almost reads as an episode in its own right. Full of drama and friendship and courage under fire, we get a focused look on Daniel's perspective as SG-1 performs S&R for another team - and recover themselves, too.

Why This Must Be Read: I have often called Redbyrd one of the queens of gen fic, particularly of the ep-related variety. This wonderful long story is a case in point, as we see the events of Maternal Instinct unfold through Teal'c's eyes. The excellent use of Bra'tac's reactions, thoughts on Jaffa culture, and Teal'c's perspective all put a new twist on a classic episode!

Why This Must Be Read: The team brings a literal ghost story back to the SGC, and General Hammond has to guide his people through to a safe exorcism.

This is a fabulous, spooky story that speaks of strength of character, leadership, alienness, and personal courage. There is so much here: Sam and Daniel in an unusual Wonder Twins mode, Teal'c with his experience and weight of history, Hammond's determination to protect his people despite themselves, and competence from just about everyone, which is something I always love!

This will grip you and absorb you, and leave a lingering knowledge that the SGC will never really understand everything that they encounter through the Stargate.
