Why This Must Be Read: At the beginning of Small Victories, Daniel has spent over a week worrying about his team and recovering from appenticitis at the same time. In this hilarious story, the SGC has rallied around to supply him with a distraction... only the distraction isn't exactly what they'd thought it would be!

If you enjoy Daniel in all his linguistic/archeological glory with his social scientist self to the fore and the sheer ridiculousness of expecting alien cultures to conform to expectations, you're going to love this. Bonus Robert and Daniel friendship for the win!

"Well," Robert repeated, "actually, we - that is, the whole academic staff, everyone who's read it - thought you might like to take the lead on presenting this to the General."

Daniel stared at him. "Me? Why me?"

"Because you're the senior archeologist and the head linguist, and the foremost expert on Furling to date and... well yeah, okay. Because the General won't fire you."

Why This Must Be Read: You don't think SG-1 are the only ones that turn out to be only mostly dead, do you...?

From Ferretti's Boba Fett moment to zombies to Walter's name change, every one of these peeks into the bizarreness of life with the Gate will leave you appreciating the black humor inherent in being a member of the SGC!

Hammond felt that dying on a long weekend was really not to be encouraged.

Why This Must Be Read: Good minor characters are such an important part of a fandom's greater landscape. Here, Lokei gives us a wonderful glimpse of Robert Rothman's progression over the years, from his first inspirations to his initial meeting with Daniel to his first time off-world. Add an excellent episode tag to Crystal Skull for good measure, and you've got a delightful sketch of Robert Rothman that will leave you wishing for more.

Why This Must Be Read: This charming missing scene from Crystal Skull gives us Nyan and Robert Rothman, trying to figure out Daniel's mysterious disappearance... complete with not-quite-audio commentary from an out-of-phase Daniel. Sparkling snark, delightful characterization, and so very Daniel!

Why This Must Be Read: A Redbyrd ep tag is always a treat. In The Parting Glass, Redbyrd offers us a poignant, painful glimpse into one of the realities of the SGC: the many, many people who never make it back. The story is set against the backdrop of The First Ones, with Daniel's slow and horrified realization of just how many people died. There are memories of Robert Rothman, and the family and friends they've loved and lost, and the soldiers that should never remain nameless.

Everyone gets a little drunk, in the end, as Daniel recites the names of all those who were lost ever since the Tau'ri first ventured into the greater universe. And if you're a little teary-eyed by the end, too... well, I assure you you'll be in good company.

"Let's drink to SG-11," suggested Coburn.

"To all the dead," Pierce added.

"To all the dead." Daniel repeated softly. "Yes."

Why This Must Be Read: In this intense story, two very unstable aliens – based on a nice twist of Greek mythology – find the perfect way to truly hurt Daniel Jackson.

Tefnut gives us a Daniel robbed of speech and the ability to communicate. The team rallies to support him however they can, each in their own way: Sam with an affectionate sense of touch and comfort, Jack with astonishing patience and determination, Teal’c with unwavering support and strength (the scene in Teal’c’s room is especially beautiful). But it will take all of Daniel’s courage and strength of will to face what has happened to him and convince the others to allow him to seek what might be a solution - or might be death: “I will not try again, or they will kill me.”

There’s great teamy goodness throughout, and cameos from Janet, Rothman, and Mackenzie to round out the fic in a most satisfying manner, but Try Again is really Daniel’s story – and one that you’re sure to enjoy.

Why This Must Be Read: It’s one of fandom’s favorite clichés: SG-1 gets turned into small children. Raven, herself, cheerfully acknowledges this. But this fic is also just plain fun. And it’s thanks to the secondary cast of characters – Hammond, Janet, Jacob, and even Robert Rothman and Nyan (two of my favorites, to be honest!) – that this story is such an entertaining read.

While the antics of the children are enjoyable – Jack’s Froot Loops, Daniel’s passive resistance against speaking (or wearing shoes), Sam’s flat refusal to wear anything pink and frilly – it’s really the reactions of the adults around them that make the reader smile. There’s Rothman’s frustration that his boss has turned into what he considers to be a horrible child; there’s Jacob’s secret delight at having some time back with his little girl again. And there’s Teal’c’s bemusement at the personalities of his younger teammates, and Nyan’s drive to help, and Janet’s struggle to communicate with Daniel…

This one is fluffy and fun, with a little character study sneaking around the edges. And it’s definitely a fic that you’re sure to enjoy.

Why This Must Be Read:  It's just a day in the life of SG-1... In other words, expect things to be absolutely insane. :)

There are so many things I love about this fic. The humor isn't OTT, but rather inherent in the ridiculous situations caused by the characters acting like themselves and getting into trouble. The dialogue is snappy and rings true, and even the characters recognize the ridiculousness of their situation. C'est la Vie... That's just life in the SGC.

While the story technically begins offworld, Daniel's frantic escape through the Gate just serves as the introduction to the actual story, which is essentially SG-1's antics on the base. Of course Teal'c, when investigating witchcraft, would snag a research volume from Daniel's shelves and borrow Cassie's copy of The Craft - and see no difference between the two. Of course Jack would do anything to discover exactly what Daniel's middle name means, from pumping the other members of the team to quizzing the members of Daniel's departments. Of course Daniel, when discovering exactly what Sam and Teal'c are trying to do, would offer his help, based on anthropological research and his own experiences on Abydos.

Of course it all goes wrong.

And, most delightful of all, of course it's Janet who manages to solve Sam's problem in the end. Just call her the Little Witch Doctor. Other highlights include Daniel's one-sided (or, at least, one-heard) argument with Sam, Teal'c's " I informed you we should not have used the foxglove," and Jack's final triumph.

Did I mention that Nyan and Rothman guest star, and that their sections are as funny as the rest of the fic? "I want to be like you when I grow up..." Hee!

It would be ridiculously easy to visualize this taking place in an actual episode, running concurrent as the character development to some other plot. This fic is a fun, light read that is sure to make the reader smile.
