Here, Jedibuttercup shines the light on Princess La Moor of Medrona (home of the Touchstone), when the Langarans are offered sanctuary on her world in S7. It's always nice to see an intelligent woman in charge, and I enjoy both La Morr's pragmatism and her cultural perceptions. This is short, satisfying, and a nice reminder that the scenes in the show are only a small sampling of a greater story.

Why This Must Be Read: Sam may be at a low point post-Death Knell, physically and emotionally exhausted from the struggle with the Kell warrior and Jacob's subsequent disappearance with the Tok'ra, but at least she's got Janet's warm (and somewhat wicked) friendship to help keep her going. Add a nice scene with Jack in the infirmary, some reflection on Jacob, and a callout to Cassie, and you've got a satisfying story that you're sure to enjoy!

Reccer's note: there is a single half-sentence in the story that can probably be read as Sam/Jack UST. I personally had no trouble keeping my gen glasses firmly in place. :)

Why This Must Be Read: Daniel and Teal'c, post-Orpheus, as Daniel still trips on his returning memory. Here is the pain of being widowed and confronting one's choices, a beautiful mesh of formality and friendship, with quotations to mask the depths of emotion. Perfectly Tea'c, marvelously Daniel, and an excellent read.

With a nod, Daniel Jackson put on his glasses again. And then he looked up, met Teal'c's stare, his own once again strong and direct. "Dal shaka mel--I die free. What about the right to live free?"

With a twist of a smile and a tip of his head, Teal'c conceded the hit to the heart. Jaffa were better accustomed to death than to life.

Yet despite the sheer crackiness of the premise, this fic is full of friendship and thoughtfulness and lovely characterization and... okay, yes, quite a bit of humor, too! From loss of life to search for identity, from sparked memories to sparked conflict, Shinealightonme offers five different ways that Daniel managed to be elsewhere when SG-1 showed up... including the last one, my favorite, in which Daniel rescues himself. All very plausible, all well-written, and all an excellent read!

Arrom spares a look back at the quiet ruins that surround the abandoned settlement. He has wondered if perhaps they hold a secret, but there will be no chance to find out now.

Why This Must Be Read: This story hits one of my all-time favorite fic buttons: competence. Not just from SG-1, but from all of the SGC.

The Only Winning Move is a no-holds-barred hilarious romp throughout Stargate Command as a training scenario takes place, complete with high-spirited competition, delightful original characters, and delicious hints of entertaining previous scenarios. You will love this for the deft characterization, general intelligence, and the sheer glee with which all SGC personnel take up the challenge and put their own unique spin on the situation. Add in some marvelous teamwork, Daniel at his most wickedly "innocent," and lovely Jack and Daniel friendship, and you'll understand why this fic has already been recced in multiple categories... and deserves to be recced again and again and again! :)
