Why This Must Be Read: You don't need familiarity with The Mummy to enjoy this! With nods to Sha're and Catherine, and as final an ending as Daniel can ever get, this short, quirky crossover is so perfectly Daniel, right down to the irony of the timeframe and the way he takes even this particular resurrection in stride.


She could not be certain, but it sounded a great deal like the Ancient Egyptian equivalent of "Oh, no, not again," which struck her as a rather bizarre thing for a newly awakened mummy to say.

Why This Must Be Read: This one hurts on so many levels: Daniel so cold, Jack so alien to the Jack that Daniel once knew, Teal'c and Sam so beyond help. It's horrifying to contemplate such an ending for the alternate team... and even more horrifying to contemplate that yes, Moebius could turn Daniel into someone like this.

Read. Wince. And try not to shiver.

Why This Must Be Read: Take all the broken pieces of Daniel's life when he's trapped in Ancient Egypt - the people he misses, the deaths he witnessed, the twisted reflections of those he loved that now are his enforced companions - and assemble them together with Abyssis' superb turn of phrase and flawless characterization. You get this fic - poignant, sharp, heartbreaking, and very, very real.


On the bad days Daniel wonders whether he could mess up the timeline enough to stop himself from existing. He tells himself it isn't suicide if there's no pulled trigger, no spilled blood.

Why This Must Be Read: As I wrote when I first commented at the entry: Stunning. Evocative. Eloquent. Beautiful!

Stultiloquentia paints a rich, lush picture of Jack at home, utterly at peace, at the lake in Minnesota when he invites the team there post-Threads. This is the bones of the man, etched against water and sky and memory: character study at its finest.

And while Sam and Daniel still sleep in the cabin, Teal'c joins him at the dock in perfect companionship - spare words exchanged, with a wealth of meaning underneath.

This is mostly a Jack piece, with fond echoes of team; Teal'c is included only in the final paragraphs. But I rec it here for Jack and Teal'c friendship for the richness of those last lines, and the way both human and Jaffa are so exactly right.

Why This Must Be Read: Here's a nice twist on the Sam and Daniel friendship: Moebius!Daniel and AU!Samantha, sitting on the sands of Ancient Egypt. Even more, Betty offers us a rarity in a Moebius!Daniel who is at peace with the choices he's made, and is optimistic about a future that he will never get to see, but which he is content to know will happen once again... and an AU!Samantha who is ready to hear about the woman she once was, even if it's never going to fit what she is right now.

Most Daniel fans are horrified at the sheer pain that Moebius inflicted on him. Betty not only gives him solace, but also gives him a friendship with Samantha - not the same, certainly, as the one he had with Sam, but a hopeful one nonetheless.

Why This Must Be Read: Is there anything more heartbreaking than Moebius? Daniel is trapped in Ancient Egypt with a Sam and Jack and Teal'c that are not the people he knew, and AU Teal'c fights for a future which he has never known, and will never get the chance to see. And in Singing Down the Moon, Butterfly lovingly paints a vivid scene from Teal'c's POV, as he asks Daniel, in the aftermath of their victory over Ra, to help him die.

Elegant and elegiac, Teal'c watches Daniel, comparing him with the Daniel he himself killed. He listens to the velvet voice that bespeaks the bright and shining future that neither one will get to enjoy. And he takes comfort in a strength that they both share, in their unwavering convictions.

Beautifullly wrenching. You will remember this one for a long time to come.

Why This Must Be Read: Cleo takes us right back to Cam's very first encounter with SG-1, when he was hospitalized for months after his F-302 crash-landed in Antarctica. Frustrated after a painful therapy session, it takes a visit from a certain archaeologist to inspire Cameron to find the determination to literally get back on his feet and give himself a new future.

Cleo weaves many of the events of the first half of S8 into the conversation, and gives us a plausible explanation of Cameron's choices. Determination is a nice look at Daniel and Cameron's first real meeting, and it does an excellent job of setting events into motion for Cameron's appointment to SG-1 at the SGC.
