Why This Must Be Read: Here's a bright new shiny fic from Aurora! It crosses with Leverage, but speaking as someone who knows absolutely nothing about that show whatsoever, it also reads excellently as an OC smart-mouth hacker who tries to break into NORAD's security at exactly the wrong time for his own good.

Fabulous outsider POV, fun Siler and Reynolds cameos, Jack in superb form, and the slow realization of the episode in question - it all adds up to a great story that you're sure to enjoy!

Why This Must Be Read: Sam Carter may have taken command of Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy, but three heartbeats still connect her to Earth.

This is a gentle, loving tribute to the closeness of SG-1 that will never go away, as Sam's first weeks of command are enlivened by messages from back home: from Daniel, from Jack, from Teal'c. Sweet, insightful, humorous, and utterly delightful, Where You Hang Your Hat is the shining best of both shows, and a story you'll remember for a long time to come.

This shiny new story breaks my self-imposed rule about reccing the same author in a category twice in the same month, but too bad. :)

I've always loved the idea of a SG-1/Discworld crossover, if it's played for humor instead of crack.

This fic? Made. Of. Win.

The Luggage at its most recalcitrant cowed by Jack, Death and cats and his acquaintance with Daniel, Teal'c and the Eyebrow of Irony, Sam trying to explain quantum, of all things, to Death...

I repeat: made of win, and funny enough for even non-Discworld fans to enjoy. If you love pTerry? Go read this right now.

Why This Must Be Read:
This entertaining story is just plain fun, as MacGuyver and SG-1 cross paths in Central America, both trying to rescue the same jaguar from various bad guys. There's delightful MacGuyver POV as we see the team through his baffled eyes, a bomb made out of tissues and Daniel's antihistamines, the resemblance that everyone sees except Jack and MacGuyver... and the almost plaintive refrain of, "Seriously, what's a Tok'ra?"

A great romp with the team, with Ba'al thrown in for good measure. I defy you to read this without a big grin on your face.

It took me a few more seconds to light the fuse on the packet and to let the string burn to the right length. In that time, Daniel said to the cat, "Just hang on. We're going to get you out of here." The cat stared at him with an expression that communicated absolutely no confidence at all. Why I thought that, I couldn't tell you.

Why This Must Be Read:
I don't follow SGA, so why do I adore Martha Wilson's Retrograde series so much? I have no idea, except that she's a marvelous writer with a wonderful gift for prose and dialogue and a fantastic grasp of characterization. Then again, I've followed her to fandoms I don't know, just for the chance to read her work... :)

Five Joint Missions, Post Retrograde puts us right in the middle of the Retrograde AU. (If you're unfamiliar with the storyline, it's enough to know that Atlantis was cut off from Earth for three years, and that thanks to the NID, the Atlantis expedition is still very wary of the people of Earth). As the title suggests, it's five missions, from the SGA characters' POV, that various team members of SG-1 undertake while they're on Atlantis. There's humor and pathos and lovely, deft scene-spinning, and you'll be reading this with a grin on your face... right before you hurriedly click on the link to read more of this excellent AU!

Why This Must Be Read: I can't call this AU, because an Ancient infuriates Daniel by pressing the reset button. But it's definitely a fascinating glimpse of pre-Atlantis Ronon, still tracked and running, as he tries to comprehend this annoying guy who won't stop talking and, impossibly, has never heard of the Wraith.

Poor Daniel spends most of the story in one stage of whump or another, but he never stops being himself - fighting back when he can, arguing, trying to make peace. Ronon is a fascinating study in contrasts, as he doesn't hesitate to shoot or even gag Daniel, yet is afraid to leave him vulnerable to a Wraith attack. And the courage of his decision, at the end of the story, leaves the reader hoping that he'll meet the Atlantis Expedition really, really soon.

Good Daniel POV, great Jack cameos, and a very intriguing Ronon: One Forgotten Day is a most enjoyable read!

Why This Must Be Read: I don't follow SGA at all, but I absolutely adore Martha Wilson's AU Retrogade series. Her characterization is lush and loving, her plots are intense and tightly-woven, and she writes the best General Jack O'Neill ever. Nearly all the stories are gen, too - bonus! :)

Trading Day is told from Rodney McKay's frazzled POV.  The SGC and Atlantis have had a successful joint off-world mission to Terlarn, but when Jack, McKay, Teyla, Sheppard, and a new-to-Atlantis Ronon linger after others leave, and half the team gets drugged, and the local bigwig is trying to flimflam his way into a diplomatic marriage... well, only Jack's unflappable snark and Ronon's big gun stand in the way.

That, and Jack makes good pancakes.

Read. Grin, or laugh out loud. And then go read the rest of Retrograde!

Written by the always marvelous Tallulah Rasa, Unfinished Business plunges us into the middle of a recruiting session, as SG-1, Sheppard, and McKay try to convince House to join the SGC. The dialogue is fast and furious and insanely funny, including competing death counts, gunshot wounds, and personality quirks. By the time the dust settles, you'll be wiping tears from your eyes and regretting that Tallulah Rasa has titled this Unfinished Business because it's a snippet of a larger work that she feels she will never complete. Why This Must Be Read: I’ve listed an unusual number of categories here, because Fives is actually three different “Five Things” – all gen, and all wonderful!

The first set explains how Siler and Walter accidently save the world – whether it’s absentmindedly turning off the lights or giving aliens an unexpectedly helpful sugar rush. The second is a fascinating outsider’s look at the SGC, as Teyla observes different characters on Earth (I was most moved by her impressions of Daniel, although Teal’c came in a close second and Sam and Felger made me grin). The third is a fascinating, eerie exploration of AUs – events that occurred on the show that Sam wishes she could have changed… and the creepy reality of what might have happened if she’d acted differently.

Like all “Five Things” ficlets, Fives is a quick read; but you’ll find yourself remembering them for a long time to come.

Why This Must Be Read: Have you ever snickered at the increasingly ridiculous idea that the SGC can still be top-secret after all these years? Then this delightful remix of Stop the Presses by Cofax is definitely for you!

Colin Jameson, a reporter from LA, comes to Colorado Springs at the behest of his friend, Matt Yurievich, to attend a press conference by one Dr. Berend Kavanagh. Despite the apparent ridiculousness of his claims, these two reporters have added up enough suspicious events over the years – the “Denver flu,” hallucinatory creatures infesting Colorado Springs, an entire building disappearing, the incident in LA in Resurrection, and Alex Colson’s disappearance after his attempt to prove the existence of aliens, just to name a few – to wonder if there’s really a story there. But when Kavanagh’s press conference gets crashed and things suddenly turn deadly, will Colin stay alive long enough to get the story out to the public?

An excellent Cassie scene, a seriously hilariously-in-character Jack O’Neill cameo, and one of the only sympathetic treatments of reporters that I’ve seen outside the Lois and Clark fandom. Stop the Presses is an affectionate poke at the SGC’s laughable secrecy, and one you’re sure to enjoy.

Why This Must Be Read: This long, engrossing story is chock-full of teamy goodness, deep friendship, drama, and sacrifice. It also has a healthy dose of wincingly painful violence and some pretty horrific scenes of torture, so read this one at your own risk.

And I’d say it is worth risking, because when Sylvia drops SG-1 into what seems to be Ancient Rome – complete with slavery, Caligula, and an unexpected royal ally – the reader races breathlessly from one scene to the next, rooting for our characters as they struggle to find each other and somehow get back home. Every one of SG-1 has their shining moment in the spotlight. There are victories and setbacks and deep emotional conflicts… and finally, most satisfyingly, triumph.

Why This Must Be Read: This story is part of the amazing Retrograde AU, which needs no introduction from me. In Least Resistance, Mitchell manages to talk himself and Daniel (who has been voted ‘Best Hostage Ever’) onto an Atlantis Gate team; but when half the team disappears – the half that includes Sheppard and Daniel – Mitchell has to overcome the Atlantis Expedition’s anxiety and paranoia in order to convince them that he hadn’t planned it, and that he wants to help them get their missing people back.

POVs alternate between Mitchell and Sheppard, as we slowly learn just what happened and who is responsible, and some all-too-familiar faces from a favorite S9 episode show up for an encore. With marvelous characterization that pulls even a non-SGA fan like me into the story, and great snippets of humor to lighten the intensity of the storyline, Least Resistance is a wonderful fic that will make you hurry back to Martha’s website to read everything else she’s written.

Why This Must Be Read: While this hilarious fic is set in Martha Wilson’s marvelous Retrograde universe, you don’t have to be familiar with Retrograde to appreciate this fantastic story!

General O’Neill sends a hapless Walter on a grand shopping expedition on behalf of Atlantis. He covers all the aisles, from children’s underwear to Playstations to condoms. There’s glee over bargains, an attempted hi-jacking, and an embarrassment factor that is largely mitigated by Teal’c’s unflappable, looming presence at his side.

We get some great cameos by Jack and Daniel, but this fic is really all Walter’s, with a fantastic Teal’c along for the ride. And by the time the story ends, you’ll be laughing out loud at Madelyn’s talent for writing what ought to be a crack!fic, but isn’t – because everyone is perfectly in character.

I'm fairly confident that you don't have to be a Terry Pratchett fan to appreciate this little drabble, but knowing the Discworld's Death and his foibles, especially his dislike for "quantum," probably makes it a lot funnier, especially Daniel's best line. It's told from Sam's POV, as she simply revels in seeing Daniel so happy once again with all the "meaning of life stuff." She's right, of course, that we haven't seen that special light in Daniel's eyes for too long.

The final image of Daniel giving Sam a tactile understanding of his awed delight nearly moved me to tears. Kellifer's short stories always pack a powerful punch, and this one is no exception.

Link: Interference Patterns

Why This Must Be Read: A quiet, considering fic, Interference Patterns is more of a character study than anything else. Unlike most Stargate: SG-1 crossovers that I've read, I'm actually familiar with both shows this time, and this fic does an excellent job of bringing out the best of the characters from both Stargate and Quantum Leap.

I enjoyed this story mostly for its seamless meshing of the both genres. Dr. Sam Beckett is used to applying one of his unique skills in order to "right what once went wrong" on his Leaps, but which skill is he supposed to be using now? It's good to see the author remembering that Beckett is both a linguist and familiar with heiroglyphics, besides his obvious expertise in quantum physics. But since Daniel is much more of an expert in those fields than Beckett, why has he Leaped into Daniel?

This story is particularly well done because it plays to the strength of both fandoms, rather than emphasizing one over the other. There's no trumping of any of the characters; rather, when the real reason for Beckett's Leap into Daniel is discovered, the members of both fandoms work together to arrive at the proper solution.

You have to feel sorry for Sam Beckett in this one. All of his usual cues are missing. No Al to give him helpful clues, and Daniel is so utterly unique among the members of SG-1 that he can't follow anyone else's lead. How is he supposed to know that he's supposed to call the leader "Jack," for example, when the woman is calling him "Colonel" and the big guy with the funny tattoo is calling him "O'Neill"? And speaking multiple languages, even if it's not on our Daniel's level, isn't going to be much help when Teal'c suddenly challenges him in Abydonian! Add the confusion of Sam Carter's first name...

Daniel, meanwhile, wakes up to find himself in a futuristic-looking room, unsure if he's on Earth or undergoing some kind of Goa'uld interrogation. The conversations that follow are an excellent look into Daniel's frustrated beliefs about the military and need-to-know security, and a surprisingly good rapport with the cigar-waving Al. Daniel's fear of what might happen if SG-1 discovers the truth, knowing what the team will assume "someone else in Daniel's body" must mean, adds an extra touch of tension.

The story ends with a touch of humor on Daniel's return to his body and Al's revelation of what Beckett's purpose had been: ensuring that SG-1 would be on Earth in order to save it from Apophis' motherships at the end of Season One. All in all, this is a very nice story that was very well done and well worth the read.

In this story, Jack accidently intercepts the "blue swirly doorways" that apparently exist in the Legendary Journeys universe and drags Iolaus back through the Stargate's wormhole with him.

There's light humor, everyone perfectly in character, and multiple crises to spice up the situation. Martha puts the mythology that both shows employ to good use, allowing this crossover to make a bizarre kind of sense. This fic is both of lot of fun and a very satisfying read.
