Why This Must Be Read: This is a lovely coda to the movie, as Jack breaks all security regs to tell Catherine what happened on the mission to Abydos and return her necklace as per Daniel's canon request: "Tell Catherine it brought me luck." It's easy to see this leading directly into Catherine and Jack's interactions in Torment of Tantalus, too.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a joyful episode tag to 1969, flashing between Walter following up on his paperwork and various characters following up on events that took place thirty years before (or long in the future). The ending is one of my all-time favorite tropes, and the entire fic is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Walter grinned. Best. Damn. Job. Ever.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a wonderful look at an unexpected friendship: Catherine Langford and Janet Frasier, from their first clash in Torment and Tantalus to a melancholy, solitary moment in the wake of Heroes. Both women shine here as their friendship deepens over the years, seen in snapshots that touch on various episodes. A really lovely story!

The two women shared a smile before Catherine hopped down from the gurney. “Dr. Fraiser, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got an Air Force to bully.”

Fraiser wasn’t about to bet against the white-haired steamroller who sailed purposefully from the infirmary. She handed off the file in her hands and went to check on Dr. Littlefield.

Why This Must Be Read: This is the sharp, intelligent Catherine Langford we first met in the movie, whose edges are never wholly smoothed away. I love the way she deals with Ernest and his hesitant steps into life on Earth after half a century of isolation. Very short and utterly charming!

Ernest was still upstairs, tucked away in one of her guest rooms. He joined her later, but he seemed withdrawn and shy, so Catherine performed what was, for her, an unnatural act, holding back the words she wanted to say.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a thoughtful episode tag to Stargate: the Movie, offering a glimpse of the aftermath to a variety of different characters. (Well, Sha'uri's is more a prologue.) My personal favorite is Catherine Langford's, but all of these feel very real and very right.

Why This Must Be Read: Minor characters deserve focus, too. Here, Stringertheory offers an enchanting character sketch of six characters - four women, two men - whose lives are both touched by the Stargate and tied to the stars. From gentle to bittersweet to angsty and back again, each of these is a deft portrait of the characters we meet and then often forget after the episode ends.

There are so many small moments that created the path her life has taken. Some of them were missteps or stumbles, but they were all heading in the same direction: toward the stars.

Why This Must Be Read: Fic that features Catherine Langford is always a reason to cheer. And in this superb crossover, Catherine meets a younger Susan Pevensie, post Last Battle, as they both take comfort in intellectual pursuits in the wake of their respective griefs.

I love the way that neither Susan nor Catherine ever learns each other's secrets, even if they learn to share both mental challenges and the pain of loss. This is gorgeous backstory, sketching out a minor character and highlighting with her brilliance. Absolutely wonderful!

Why This Must Be Read: Here is that rarest of creatures: a story featuring Catherine Langford, the woman who really got the Stargate Program started.

Here is her frustration with the military and hidebound regulations, and her first real meeting with a bright young woman who toes the military line but also shares the same enthusiasm and love for science and discovery. Zinke says this is a Bechdel test fic, and it is; but it's also a wonderful character piece that allows both Catherine and Sam to shine.

The last thing Catherine needed right now was another over-eager, starry-eyed officer on her team whose only concern was making Major before her next birthday.
