Why This Must Be Read: In this delightful story, Daniel has to resort to really extreme measures to get Teal'c to talk...
Set in early S9, Daniel confronts Teal'c with his concerns about Teal'c's continued presence on SG-1 when his own people need him - and would treat him with much greater freedom that he would ever enjoy on Earth. There's the sharp pain of Jack's absence, felt both by them both; there's point and counterpoint, as Daniel pours out his indignation at how Teal'c is treated and what he believes his friend deserves. There's Teal'c's musings on Daniel, too, including one particularly poignant passage: Daniel Jackson had changed much in the years they had known one another. Teal'c felt some pride at this, and some pity. But most of all, there is sincerity, and friendship, and true caring for another... even if Daniel is going to have to buy a very expensive dinner to make up for things, and he'd better watch his step for some time to come!
Suspension has an excellent Teal'c voice, a gentle understanding of the long history between Teal'c and Daniel, and a most satisfying conclusion that will leave you smiling - and wishing there would have been a scene like this on the show!
"It appears that you have set a trap for me, Daniel Jackson."
"Yeah. About that. Um. Sam helped me set it up before she left to see her brother Mark, actually. We didn't want you to end up with a head injury when you triggered the snare. She assured me that you wouldn't be knocked into a wall or hit the floor on your way up."
"This is not the month of April," Teal'c said, after taking a moment to tally the current date.
"No," Daniel agreed.
"Are there other Earth holidays that involve the setting of boobytraps?"
"Ah. No. April Fool's Day is it. And that doesn't usually involve, you know, being suspended bodily from the ceiling."
