Why This Must Be Read: This is a superb glimpse behind-the-scenes, both of the burden of command and how that loneliness can be assuaged by the steady presence of other team leaders watching your back. Ziparumpazoo traces an unspoken tradition throughout the years, tying canon incidents into the Friday night meetings, from the very first episodes of the show until the quiet, almost formal passing of the torch to the next colonel in charge of SG-1.

The worldbuilding that includes the other SG teams and their leaders - Reynolds, Ferretti, Dixon, even Makepeace - makes this fic a rare treat and delightfully realistic. This is Jack, boiled down to his essence, and perfectly himself.
