Why This Must Be Read: In this thoughtful post-Ark of Truth story, Cameron is perceptive enough to recogize certain warning signals regarding Dr. Daniel Jackson and head him off at the pass. I love the deliberate calm of Cameron here, the gradual spreading of his spinning web to include the entire team, and his wry acknowledgment that of course Daniel would never leave things as they are. Excellently insightful, and well worth the read!
Daniel was grim--and determined. “We can’t let that happen. We have to do something.”
There was a time when Cam would have put that conclusion down to wishful thinking, or maybe a long-term goal, but he knew a whole lot more about hell-or-high-water Jackson. That wasn’t idle chatter. That was him getting ready to jump off a cliff, and the only thing unusual about it was the heads-up.
“Well… Let’s just think about that--just in a hypothetical sort of way…” Cam sat on the bench and started tying his shoes, keeping his eyes off Jackson. “You could get in there, no problem, but getting the ark out? That’s not going to be easy--sneaking out with a big ol' box like that…" He gave a shrug, moved on to the other shoe.
