Why This Must Be Read: Here's a nice little missing scene from The Scourge, in which Sam takes a badly-needed break from scared diplomats in caves to enjoy a conversation with Daniel instead. Fun banter, wry speculation, and an unexpected sobering reflection make this an excellent showcase of the many dichotomies of Sam and Daniel's friendship.

Why This Must Be Read: This gorgeous story gives us a quiet nighttime conversation between Sha're and Janet, after a Secrets AU in which Sha're -- and her infant Harcesis, Shifu -- are rescued and are now safe (for the moment) on Earth.

With Janet's help, Sha're soberly explores the possible ramifications and futures she now faces as a former host with a child touched by evil who is wanted by both the Tok'ra and the NID. Egyptian mythology and imagery may clash with Janet's practicality and open heart, but their conversation meshes elegantly into a coherent, cohesive whole. This fic beautifully portrays two of the strongest women in SGC canon, and it will stay with you for a long time to come.
