Why This Must Be Read: This story is one of my favorite selections from the Daniel Alphabet Soup anthology. Tejas paints a dreamy, almost lyrical scene of Daniel doing what he loves most: studying the past, deciphering a language and its people, and creating a picture of what might-have-been.

I love the glimpse Tejas offers us of a quiet, contemplative mission, with nothing more or less than some meaning-of-life-stuff and a peaceful site study. Experiences like these are what keep Daniel going through the Gate... and make us so happy to along for the ride.
