Why This Must Be Read: This lovely, thoughtful story offers not only a fascinating glimpse at some truly alien creatures, but a marvelous examination of the aftereffects, both good and haunting, of SG-1’s journeys throug the Gate.
The team meets the Breen, an astonishingly long-lived race of... well, fish people. They take to Sam most of all, and when the team goes home, Sam is gifted with a new perspective on the universe: something that she’s not sure if she should cherish or fear, but something that she knows she can’t understand. Thankfully, she has her teammates - and friends - to help keep her grounded.
Salieri shifts us deftly between the scenes off-planet and the aftermath of the team get-together, as the ache of beauty lost is soothed by the affection of closeness and friendship. In Dulci Jublio is a thoughtful, insightful read, and one that’s sure to leave you smiling at the end.
