Why This Must Be Read: Here's a new treat from the queen of gen fic! This is a lovely early S1 team perspective, as conversation in the aftermath of a mission veers into unexpected territory. But Jack will always protect his team, even when Daniel sometimes seems more alien than Teal'c...
There's humor and pathos and the warmth of friendship here -- classic teamy goodness that is bound to make you smile!
“It’s usually made of bread, or bread crumbs,” Carter said to Teal’c, continuing a conversation that had begun on another world. “And it’s called stuffing because – well, because you stuff it into the turkey.”
Teal’c raised one eyebrow in a look Jack had come to think might indicate alarm, and no wonder, considering what had been stuffed into his gut. “The turkey’s, uh, dead. When the stuffing is going on,” Jack said helpfully, remembering the warmth of his grandmother’s kitchen, and then, years later, Sara laughing as she tried to make a pie while…but no, he wasn’t going there.
Teal’c’s expression didn’t change, though the other eyebrow went up.
“That makes it sound like--” Carter started, but she didn’t finish the thought. “Teal’c, it’s a festive tradition,” she said.
“I see,” Teal’c said, in a tone that said he clearly didn’t.
Jack felt a momentary flare of irritation, because sometimes it was hard explaining everything, especially when the effort made you uncomfortably aware that you did a lot of things you couldn’t explain. And shoving cornbread and chopped celery into a turkey was in no way the same as inserting a parasitic flying snake into a human being, for crying out loud.
“It’s a lot like rel’shya,” Daniel offered, finally looking up from the book of field notes in his lap.
