Why This Must Be Read: A painfully gorgeous look at the sheer weariness of hard experience, as Teal'c and Jack try to get clean after an ugly mission in the early days. They've been there before -- too often -- and it's that shared pain that helps ease the burden. Hurting and beautiful.
He let himself rest his head in his hands, and then jerked it up as the door opened. Teal'c came in without breaking the quiet. He was the only one of them who ever seemed to be able to come into a room without talking. Jack took a deep breath and tried not to look the way he felt.
"Hey," he said.
Teal'c nodded, and then came and sat beside him on the bench. Neither of them spoke for a while.
"It has been a challenging day," Teal'c said finally. Jack was about to answer that with some smart remark, but when he glanced over, there was something bruised in Teal'c's expression that made him keep his mouth shut. It occurred to him that having been First Prime of Apophis was probably the definition of having seen too much.
