Why This Must Be Read: When the purely human members of SG-1 have a delayed reaction to nishta, Teal'c and Jacob decide to seize the opportunity...

Teal'c pwnage and Jacob pwnage are apparently exponential. :)

This ficlet was originally my birthday present, and I have no idea why it took me so long to rec. Go read it now!

"They are usually most argumentative," agreed Teal'c, blandly.

"Yeah," said Jacob, thoughtfully. "Usually."

Jacob... said Selmak, warningly – but she said it with such amusement that he wasn't fooled for a moment.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a fascinating exploration of Nick's backstory, including a history that spans decades and too many griefs. I love how a person that so many fans perceive as a shallow, cookie-cutter character suddenly becomes very human and very real!

Looking down at Claire’s son, Kaatje’s grandson, he knew he couldn’t face another love, another loss. He made his voice harsh as he told Daniel there was no place in his life for him. That someone – someone else -- would care for him. About him.

And he left.

Why This Must Be Read: This glorious, intense story is long. And incredibly teamy. I love each and every one of them here. Bill Lee shines, Janet has a great cameo, and the comfort of the final scene is an absolute joy. Make sure you've got the time to read this all in one sitting, because you won't be able to stop!

"That's an order, Siler."

"Yes, sir," Siler says, because he never questions the Colonel's orders, even when being saddled with a ten year old Major Samantha Carter, who is all pigtails, freckles, and a toothy smile.

Why This Must Be Read: This fantastic exploration of the Bill Lee's first encounter with SG-1 - and, particularly, Daniel - is not only a gripping story, but also a wonderful outsider POV of team friendship. I love the way Bill tries to understand the dynamics of Sam and Jack and Daniel's interactions with one another, and how so much goes over his head even as the reader comprehends SG-1's unique closeness. Add typical Jb drama and tension, and you've got a long, engrossing story of SG-1 at its best.

Why This Must Be Read: In this powerful piece, Sam manages to escape the hospital in Desperate Measures on her own... but she doesn't get away unscathed.

Take Sam Carter and strip away her memories, her physical health, her very sense of self. Plague her with memories that make no sense and give her no resource to discover the truth. Then sit back and watch as she still is strongly, powerfully Sam, and finds her own way back to her old self and her old life.

I love her determination, her courage, and driving need for discovery. No matter what the circumstances, that aspect of Sam never changes.

Why This Must Be Read: When a weary, heartsick Sam post-2010 meets Doctor John Smith at an astrophysics conference, their conversation on time travel and consequences is both absorbing and oddly comforting.

Like me, you needn't be a Doctor Who fan to thoroughly enjoy the discussion between these two; while I imagine that all of the Doctor's "hypotheticals" are actual canon references, it doesn't matter from a Stargate perspective. But if you do watch Doctor Who, you definitely won't want to miss this intelligent and intriguing character study.

Why This Must Be Read: At the beginning of Small Victories, Daniel has spent over a week worrying about his team and recovering from appenticitis at the same time. In this hilarious story, the SGC has rallied around to supply him with a distraction... only the distraction isn't exactly what they'd thought it would be!

If you enjoy Daniel in all his linguistic/archeological glory with his social scientist self to the fore and the sheer ridiculousness of expecting alien cultures to conform to expectations, you're going to love this. Bonus Robert and Daniel friendship for the win!

"Well," Robert repeated, "actually, we - that is, the whole academic staff, everyone who's read it - thought you might like to take the lead on presenting this to the General."

Daniel stared at him. "Me? Why me?"

"Because you're the senior archeologist and the head linguist, and the foremost expert on Furling to date and... well yeah, okay. Because the General won't fire you."

Add a scene for each team member as they find that click that helps them recognize that they're truly home again, and this is a lovely, feel-good story that's pure old skool SG-1.

Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle had its own peculiar application to SG-1 teams. Observation made them twitchy. Janet had gotten a bit of a read on position in the infirmary. Hopefully watching them in more relaxed surroundings would give her a read on momentum. They should be trooping in soon.
