Why This Must Be Read: A thoughtful exploration of the many contradictions that make up Walter the Chevron Guy: the pragmatist, the idealist, the optimist. I love the way that each of these offers insights, yet meshes together into a coherent whole.
Like every other member of the SGC, he keeps a gun tucked under the striped socks and neatly folded boxers. There have been too many close calls, too many chances for them not to be prepared, to be ready. He hasn’t had to use it yet, but he never goes to sleep at night- or day- without checking it to make sure it’s loaded.

On the other hand, the sentient cactii are both friendly and surprisingly generous. SG-1 stumble home the next day, laden with enough artifacts to keep the birthday boy happy for at least a month.... or at least until the biggest explodes in the gateroom, showering the place in living and somewhat intoxicating sparkles for three weeks.
