There's great team snark and friendship, complete with a bored Jack teaching Daniel how to fight when he's armed only with an umbrella. The worldbuilding is intriguing, the characterization is delightful, Daniel is happily very far from helpless, and the tag line will have you laughing out loud. Go read, and enjoy!

Why This Must Be Read: This almost gentle ficlet is an episode tag for The Lost Tribe from SGA, in which poor Daniel goes through an all-too-familiar scenario yet again. Jack and Daniel share a conversation that is both understated and rich with understanding and is utterly, perfectly them.
Only Jack could take the horror of the choicelessness of that moment and reduce it to a harmless conversational kernel--and do it with understanding instead of condescension or pity.

Why This Must Be Read: I love the structure of this ficlet, as Jack struggles throughout S6 with the Daniel-shaped hole in his life that he faces over and over again. Whether it's the habit of his footsteps or his speed-dial, the rhythms and patterns of Jack's days always seem to include Daniel somewhere, somehow... until that moment when it finally gets to be real again.
Poignant, pointed, powerful. An excellent short read!
"Teal'c, take point. Carter, take the rear." The pause is fractional, goes unnoticed, as Jack doesn't say the wrong name. "Jonas, you're with me. Let's go, kids."

Daniel almost let out a sigh because the real fallout from those blue crystals that had been alive was that now Jack didn't even trust something that looked like a rock. Hitching forward, Daniel moved a little closer to the wall, just in case Jack deemed it a threat before Daniel had finished here.

Written with Nightspear's typical stellar characterization, and a final note of hope, Scientists, Slaves, and Soldiers is an excellent Five Things that you're sure to enjoy.
"Hi," Jonas said, smiling and hoping that openness would bridge the gap between him and the members of SG-1. "Can I ask you a question?"

These are fantastic peeks at potential AUs, and while #3 is my absolute favorite for the "make her write this story right now" category, #4 is my personal canon for why poor Paul is still only a major after ten years - and it is perfectly him to willingly make that choice.
Paul Davis is a fan favorite who definitely deserves more love, and these five things are a wonderful contribution to the cause!
This year, they trusted him enough to promote him; but he wonders if he could have traded that for a shorter list in Hammond's hands if only he'd argued a little bit harder.

Why This Must Be Read: This story hits one of my all-time favorite fic buttons: competence. Not just from SG-1, but from all of the SGC.
The Only Winning Move is a no-holds-barred hilarious romp throughout Stargate Command as a training scenario takes place, complete with high-spirited competition, delightful original characters, and delicious hints of entertaining previous scenarios. You will love this for the deft characterization, general intelligence, and the sheer glee with which all SGC personnel take up the challenge and put their own unique spin on the situation. Add in some marvelous teamwork, Daniel at his most wickedly "innocent," and lovely Jack and Daniel friendship, and you'll understand why this fic has already been recced in multiple categories... and deserves to be recced again and again and again! :)

Holdouttrout sketches five different people (or beings) who inhabit the SGC, from the woman who phases out of existence intermittently to the alien accidentally caught on base. Some are bittersweet and thoughtful; others are mischieviously hilarious. All of them are wonderfully real, and astonishingly easy to picture as part of the everyday insanity that is life at the SGC!
Captain Matt Ellis was assigned to the SGC in 2008. He has been off-world once so far. He hasn't been cleared for active duty since then because technically he's still "affected by the unique conditions of P5S-772, which have altered the chemistry of his epidermis to create a camouflaging effect."
In short, his skin changes color.
